I refer to myself as faux hawk’s mommy for blogging. I have a two month old son with so much hair and the cutest faux hawk, hence the name! I finally feel like I’m getting back to normalcy after that crazy stage of waking up every two hours at night! Now I’m facing the new challenge of fighting off cabin fever and feeling connected to the outside world. That’s where you come in! I’m hoping that by blogging I’ll feel more socially connected while getting to share some great stories about being a mom.
Before motherhood… I graduated from Rowan University in 2001 with a Bachelor’s in Communications. I specialized in Advertising, which I loved, but couldn’t find a job! I knew that being unemployed wasn’t an option so I got a job at a childcare center. It was so rewarding! I stayed there and worked my way up until I eventually became the director of Harcum Children’s Academy. After about a year, I realized being a director was not as much fun because I missed being with the children. I decided to go back to school for teaching. I attended Monmouth University and New Jersey Alternate Route classes and received my teaching certificate and a Masters Degree in Elementary Education. I have taught second and third grade classes as well as basic skills math to fourth and fifth graders. This past year I took on a co-teaching position teaching basic skills reading, writing, and math.
Being a teacher I have the luxury of taking off until the end of my contractual year. A 9 month maternity leave coupled with two months of summer and the guarentee of a job in September…boy, do I feel lucky!
Lately I spend my days with faux hawk boy at home. We try to run some kind of errand everyday just to get out of the house. We have also started weekly playdates with another stay at home mom. We take the babies for walks, watch them play, and more recently used a tag-team approach to baking cookies together. Ahhh…let the adventures of motherhood begin!
